The struggle to lose weight has been going on for many years - and the longer it goes, the more crazy ideas there are that people use to lose those extra pounds! Although it has been proven time and time again that the only way to lose weight is through a healthy diet and exercise, people continue to believe that the next fad diet is going to be the "miracle answer" for their weight loss woes. Even after numerous failures, it is easier to believe that eating a crazy diet is going to work where logic and determination can only fail. Some fad diets are crazier than others - and following are some examples of those that are the absolute worst:
1. The Apple Diet. The original version of this was to eat an apple before every meal to prevent eating as much from high-calorie options. This version has actually shown to have some potential so the only thing to do was to change it. The newest version is a little different. The dieter alternates days between eating nothing but apples and eating anything they want. The most common results from this version seem to be a significant weight gain and a strong aversion to apples!
2. The Cigarette Diet. Cigarettes for better health? Based on the idea that nicotine will boost your metabolism, someone came up with the idea to substitute smoking for eating. Attempting to lose weight is one of the most common reasons girls are smoking more than ever before. If you notice the weight of every female smoker you see, you will quickly realize that this is not a diet that will work on its own!
3. The Lemonade Diet. This is a diet that was popular in the 1970's and has found its way back yet again. This diet is also a cleansing diet that is made from lemons, organic maple syrup, cayenne pepper and water. The lemonade is all you consume except for water and a salt flush during the duration of the diet. If you have constant access to the restroom and no other commitments in life, don't mind being hungry all day every day, and you know how to restore the microflora to your gut once you have completed the diet, then by all means, go for it!
4. The Sex Diet. Of all the diets, this is perhaps the one that makes the least sense. The idea is that whenever you have cravings for something you shouldn't eat, you have sex instead. So, what's the problem? Most of us get hungry through the day when we are at work or in school, whatever. Even if you are at home, your partner is likely to be working. Unless you are independently wealthy, someone has to be working! When you are watching your favorite soap at noon and you start craving a chocolate chip cookie, are you going to run to your partner's office and crash a meeting? Get friendly with the UPS delivery guy? Or, are you going to control yourself until evening when your partner is home? The creator of this diet either overestimated the number of nonworking overweight people in the country or underestimated the number of times a woman can crave chocolate in a day!
5. The "Colorful" Diet: This plan advocates eating only foods of a certain color each day, so one day would be "green", and another would be "orange". The problem? While there are many healthy green foods, there are also tons of loopholes! The motivated dieter could consume Shamrock shakes, mint chocolate chip ice cream and green PEZ all day on "green" day, and still feel like they stuck to the plan!
If you are interested in real weight loss, do yourself a favor. Skip the fad diets and go with the reasonable healthy diet and exercise plan!
