Colon cleansing diets are a dime a dozen these days. It seems like every celebrity is on a colon cleansing diet that they swear by. Many of these diets make outrageous claims as to how much weight a person can lose. Unfortunately, many of these claims are overblown and the diets are not particularly healthy. Of those that are healthy some are incredibly difficult to follow.

One of the most common colon cleansing diets is known as the lemonade diet. This diet consists of drinking a concoction of lemonade, maple syrup, and cayenne pepper. There is no other food allowed on this cleanse.

It is no wonder people lose weight while on this diet as the only calories consumed are from the maple syrup in the beverage. Obviously this is not healthy and could even be dangerous for certain people. This would be much better classified as a fast than as a diet.

A much healthier way to lose weight is to take a colon cleansing supplement while making smarter food choices. The colon cleansing supplement will sweep out the twelve to fifteen pounds of undigested waste material in the colon and the healthier food choices will reduce the number of calories consumed per day. This is the only sure fire way to lose weight.

Many herbal dietary systems will suggest a person replace fast food, junk food, or heavily processed foods with fruits, vegetables, and whole grain breads. The replacement foods are clearly healthier choices and have fewer calories than the other foods so weight loss is sure to follow.

The truth of the matter is that the only way to lose weight is to consume fewer calories than you burn. Cleansing the colon helps the body to burn calories more efficiently and eating a healthy diet introduces fewer calories to be burned. Add a little bit of exercise to this and you will be shocked at how quickly you are able to lose weight.
