Albino tiger Oscar cichlid is also known as Apaiari in Brazil, Caraussu in Argentina, or Acarahuazu in Peru. This species originated in South America which obtains an extrovert personality and an amazing interactive demeanor. They have this ability to identify a mate as well as recognize its keeper.
Albino tiger possess an orange pink coloration which is a variant color of an Oscar which is also known as Astronotus oscellatus. They acquire this digging behavior especially in plants and they also like to rearrange rocks and gravel in the aquarium.
Oscar cichlids should be kept in an aquarium with other fishes that are of similar size and not smaller otherwise the small species will be eaten like a snack. Remember that this cichlid is aggressive.
The ideal tank size for a solo Oscar is about 75 gallons with water temperature ranging from 72 - 82 degrees Fahrenheit. They are best kept in large tanks since they can grow as large as 12 inches. Aquarium size does not hinder its size and will continue to grow to its optimum size hence it is best to place them in a larger tank before fully grown.
Nevertheless, despite its huge size they are a peaceful species. Subsequently because of its size causes other threats to back down. Although they can fairly get along well with other Oscars inside the tank, it is also not impossible to get rough with each other especially when territorial disputes arise.
Albino Oscar cichlids are omnivores and eat any kind of food and are completely comfortable with a prepared food diet. This includes flakes for smaller fishes and pellets for the larger ones. They may also be fed with a live feeder fish however this could spoil their desire for prepared foods.
Feed your albino Oscars with food that brings out the fullness of its red coloration. Medium-sized Oscars are fond of worms, mealworms, waxworms, plankton, and even medium pellets and of course their all-time favorite which is the feeder goldfish and rosy reds. On the other hand the bigger Oscars like to nibble on krills, silversides, grasshoppers, night crawlers, a larger feeder goldfish and large pellets.
Noticing your albino Oscar lying on its side at the bottom of the tank is not an unusual behavior. It may look that your fish is distress but they are not. It is basically their way of portraying boredom and resting.
What is more amazing with this species is that they love to interact with their keepers especially to the person feeding them.
Your baby albino Oscar cichlid may have lesser fullness and brightness. As they mature its natural vibrant and striking red color will just appear although feeding them with color food will help bring out quickly their blacks and hastens the display of darker color cichlid.
