All the diet programs that claim to lose body fat actually make it harder to lose fat in the long run. Diets don't work because they use food restriction to accomplish it but this works against the body causing the metabolism to slow down. The slower your metabolic rate is the less calories you burn.

Why are low calorie diets harmful to your body

Most diets also don't have enough proper exercise as well, especially weight training, to stop the decrease of metabolism. Short term low calorie diet only damages your metabolism, so the longer you are on a low calorie diet, the less calories your body burns. The goal should be to speed up the metabolic rate, not slow it down.

Anyone who has used strict low calorie diets before have done some damage to their metabolism and mot dieters have used very strict low calorie diets. People always expect to lose weight very quickly and very often this can cause a lot of problems in the future. It can be very difficult to lose body fat in the future if you have caused damage to your metabolism with diets.

But the good news is that even if you have damaged your metabolism then it can be fixed with proper nutrition plan and strength training. It is very important to do the right type of exercise and eat the right foods at the right time. If you start a proper exercise program then you can expect an almost immediate boost in metabolic rate but it still takes time for it to recover fully.

Tips to boost your metabolism

- Eat 5-6 smaller meals a day
- Your meal frequency should be around 2-3 hours. Your breakfast should and post workout meal should be the largest.
- Maintain a very small calorie deficit and avoid starvation levels. This around 1800 for women and 2100 for men. Of course this can vary.
- You should always eat at least 20 grams of protein per meal and have a balanced diet in general. Which is around 50% carbs, 30% protein and 20% healthy fats.
- Choose natural and unprocessed foods and often as you can.
- If you are new to strength training then you should get help from a fitness professional. It is very important to have the right technique and intensity levels.
- Your aerobic training should be moderate or high intensity. Interval training is the best option. Start with 2-3 times a week is good enough.
