Different Types of Crash Diets and Why You Should Avoid Them

Different Types of Crash Diets and Why You Should Avoid Them

There are many different types of crash diets, and the manufacturers of those diet plans make outlandish claims. Let's explore the different types of diets of this nature, and why you should avoid them.

1. Starvation Diets: This is the worst possible type of diet. Our bodies were designed to use the food that we eat for proper function of all of our complicated body systems. Starvation leads to organ damage or organ failure, and once you start eating again, the body is more apt to store even more fat that it stored before you starved your poor body, in case you should decide to starve yourself again in the near future.

2. Liquid Diets: Liquid diets rarely work. First, you cannot stick to such a diet, and second, the body requires solid food. Liquid diets often lead to either diarrhea or constipation, and due to a lack of the appropriate amounts of vitamins and minerals, liquid diets can also lead to organs shutting down, or at the very least, organ damage.

3. Detoxification Diets: These diets typically dehydrate you, and the weight that you lose is actually nothing more than water. You cannot live dehydrated, and when you rehydrate, the weight comes back almost instantly. With these types of diets, you will lose weight quickly, but the loss is only temporary.

Of course, aside from these types of crash diets, you must also use caution when purchasing and using over the counter diet pills and diet supplements as well. Many do not live up to their promises, and several are actually quite dangerous.
