When it comes to weight loss, more and more people are turning to weight loss diet pills to get rid of excess pounds. Prescription and non-prescription diet pills are big business in the world today as the number of people that are overweight in the world seems to be at an all time high and is increasing every day. The question that most people have is, are these pills safe and do they actually help to lose weight? I've done some research and in the following article I will try to answer some of the questions people have about these products.
1. Should I get a prescription? Meridia and Xenical are the two most popular prescription diet pills available right now. Both medications have been approved by the FDA for long term use, usually recommended for people that are considered obese. The effectiveness of these drugs is moderate at best, and they come with the risk of addiction and potentially harmful side effects. Possible side effects include; increased heart rate, anxiety, restlessness, and insomnia.
2. What about non-prescription pills? There are countless numbers of over-the-counter supplements available today. Most, however, are not regulated by the FDA, which means that you are on your own when trying to determine what really works and what is a scam. Two of the most popular supplements available at the moment are Phentramin and Hoodia. Whether or not these pills actually help a person lose weight is still pretty unclear, and they carry most of the same risks for side effects as the prescription medications.
3. What is it going to cost? Most prescription diet pills are not covered by insurance companies, so you will likely have to shell out anywhere from $50 to $200 a month. As with the prescription meds, over-the-counter supplements can put a huge hole in your pocket. These pills can also run anywhere from $50 to $100 a month or more depending on how much you decide to take.
4. Do they work? This is what everyone really wants to know, unfortunately, it can be next to impossible to find truthful answers to this question. Of course, manufacturers of these products will tell you that there product going to produce great results, and that may be true, but, what they won't tell you is that these are not miracle pills and a change in diet and exercise is also required. This may seem like common sense, but, many people are looking for that next miracle pill that works without any changes to their current way of living.
