With all of the different types of fad diet plans out there, it is hard to choose the one that is right for you. But regardless of which fad diet you choose to go with, there is no substitute for the age-old, time-tested principles of a sensible, common sense diet plan.
Common sense is all you really need in order to diet effectively and lose weight effortlessly. Here are some tips on how to devise your own common sense diet plan:
1. Never eat until you are full. Only eat until you are satisfied. Remember that there will always be a next meal!
2. Drink at least 10 full 8-ounce glasses of water every day.
3. Do not eat within 3 hours before going to sleep at night.
4. Get a full night of sleep every night.
5. Always choose the low or fat free options whenever possible.
6. Always choose the low-sugar or sugar-free options whenever possible.
7. Eat wheat products and not white, whenever possible.
8. Men should consume at least 38 grams of fiber every day, and women should consume at least 25 grams of fiber every day.
9. You should strive to consume at least 5 servings of fruits and / or vegetables every day.
10. Spread your meals out so that there is at least a 3 hour gap in between them, or two hours if you intend to have a light snack during the day.
11. Plan your meals out for the day whenever possible, rather than leaving it to chance. This way you can maintain control over your diet. Either pack your lunch from home or make sure that you know there will be a restaurant nearby wherever you will be that serves the right food choices for you. There is nothing worse than to be starving and the only place available to get food is McDonald's.
12. Never starve. If you are very hungry, you won't be able to think rationally and you will end up making the wrong food choices when you do finally eat.
13. Do some physical activity every day for at least 30 minutes, whether it is walking talking the stairs, doing some labor-intensive housework, or of course traditional exercising.
14. Avoid or reduce your dependence on salt whenever possible, to avoid bloating.
15. Avoid carbonated beverages, including the diet, caffeine-free ones, as these can still have detrimental effects to your health and to your weight loss regimen.
