Starvation diets have become a very popular way to lose weight. It basically implies to a particular kind of diet where one starts eating very small proportions of food or almost no food at all! Such diets have become a fad amongst teenagers and young aspirants of the fashion world. Many arguments have been placed both for and against such drastic measures to lose weight. But what is the real truth behind it and how effective is it if you want to lose considerable weight in a short period of time?

1. If you are planning to follow a starvation diet, here is how you should start out. Cut down on all kinds of fatty or carbohydrate containing food. This could be a big challenge considering that a major proportion of all the food that we eat contain either fat or carbohydrates. These foods include bread, butter, milk, cheese, meat, chips, juices etc. however there is nothing one cannot achieve with the strength of one's determination.

2. Starvation diets have been proved to significantly reduce your body's metabolic rate, which slows down the rate of fat loss which you initially attained after a couple of weeks or so. So in order to maintain a steady loss of weight via this diet, it is extremely important to alter the nutritional composition of your food intake. So eat loads of vegetables like cabbages, grebe peas, lettuce, cauliflowers etc, low sugar containing fruits like apples, cherries, blueberries kiwi, currants etc. you can also choose to live on a variety of fishes like buffalo fish, abalone, bass, tuna etc.

3. It is also necessary that you do a lot of regular exercise so as to maintain a healthy metabolic rate to continue losing weight after the initial phase. Particularly do a lot of cardiovascular and aerobic exercises like running, jogging, sports etc. It is absolutely unavoidable if you want your starvation diet to succeed.

A lot of arguments have been put against starvation diets and it has been proved that in the long term it causes a lot of problems like prolonged hunger, depression, fatigue, irritability, fainting and muscle atrophy leading to loss in muscle mass. However there is still a larger fraction of people who believe in this and have used it to loose weight drastically. Hence this method definitely works.
