Are you aware that the number one cause of backed up septic tanks is undigested supplements? You heard me right. Most of what you are swallowing in the form of nutrition supplements end up in your toilet. What a waste!
If this fact doesn't convince you to better know the difference between an unabsorbable and the best nutrition supplements...then maybe this next fact will. Recently the American Medical Association published an article in JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association) on the dangers of (USP) synthetic supplements. In some of the studies conducted there was an increased risk of death.
Though, little doubt exists that most people are not getting the nutrition they need from the food they are eating. So, many are looking to supplementing their diet with a good quality supplement.
How do you know that you are buying a good quality supplement? The following are things to look for before investing in any supplement. If you want the best nutrition supplements that will be absorbed by your body, and who wouldn't, then these are a few things to look for:
- Made up of whole food for safe and effective absorption. We are designed to get our nutrition from whole foods. Your body recognizes food and therefore absorbs a high percentage of the nutrients. In whole foods, the ideal combination of nutrients lends to its absorption. Don't be fooled by supplements that taut very high levels of nutrients. Absorption is the key.
- Standardized, which guarantees that you are getting what the label states. Studies comparing label amounts with actual amounts of various supplements showed wide discrepancies. The levels found ranged from much lower to much higher amounts than what was listed on the label.
- Follows good manufacturing practices (GMP) for quality control. This means that a 3rd party tests a product for consistency and validation of the supplement.
There are lots of good products out there! There are definitely products that are better than others. Using the 3 criteria mentioned above, do your research. The label will clearly state if a product is manufactured using these guidelines.
Otherwise, buyer beware!
