How to Succeed on Low Calorie Diet Plans

How to Succeed on Low Calorie Diet Plans

I lost 90 pounds by following low calorie diet plans and I am willing to share my experience with you. Like many people I have been a career dieter, and my weight has gone up and down over the years. My closet used to have sizes ranging from 8 all the way to size 24, but not any more. I have learned to live on a low calorie diet and you can too.

As a woman, my plan consisted of 1,200 calories a day. Men's low calorie diets allow 1,500 calories. The most important part of eating a low calorie diet is to have a variety of foods. You will become bored if you eat the same thing every day. Make up a shopping list each week and do not buy anything in the store that is not on your list. So many of the purchases we make while shopping are impulse buys and they are usually not the healthiest choices.

Everything is allowed, but in moderation. That means that you can eat a slice of cake when you go visit your grandmother, but it has to be a skinny slice and you can't do it every day. I found that when I denied myself a piece of chocolate that I was chasing that chocolate the entire week and I was miserable. I tiny piece of chocolate was enough to satisfy my urge, but if I didn't eat it I was more likely to grab a king sized Snickers bar from the vending machine a day later.

I still buy large bags of pretzels, but when I get home I open the bag and portion out the pretzels into small plastic bags. This way when I want some pretzels I can just grab my portion controlled bag and have a snack that fits into my low calorie diet plan. You can buy snacks that are individually portioned already, but they are a lot more expensive than doing it yourself.

I am not the type of person to measure servings. However, the first week on my low calorie diet plan I did measure everything and I read every package to learn how much was in one serving. In retrospect I think that is why I have been so successful in my weight loss. Did you know that a one-pound box of pasta contains 8 servings? I was shocked to learn that too! The first week of measuring and weighing made me learn what quantities of food I should be eating.

Trust me, I know how hard it is to go from eating 2,000 calories a day to eating a low calorie diet of 1,200 per day, but you can do it. I agree that a 1/2 cup of pasta in your dish looks pretty paltry, but bulk it up by adding plenty of fresh veggies. The fiber in the vegetables will fill you up too. Another tip is to use smaller bowls. This will make your portions appear bigger. After two weeks you will see the results that will make you want to continue on your low calorie diet.

Dog Worms

Dog Worms

Worming Your Dog

Your dog should be treated for the prevention of worms at least twice a year -- more often if your dog is a scavenger. There are two main groups of worms which affect dogs -- roundworms and tapeworms. Worm infestation can cause abnormal hunger, diarrhea, poor growth, itching around the bottom and general loss of condition.

Untreated dogs can pass worms on to other dogs, via the eggs which are deposited in the feces when the dog goes to the toilet. The eggs are then moved around by the wind and on the soles of people's shoes, or by sticking to the feet of passing dogs. That dog then licks himself and ingests the eggs, causing the dog to becoming infested.

An un-wormed dog could also cause a disease in humans called Visceral Larva Migrans, which is caused by ingesting the egg of the roundworm Toxocara Canis. Children are particularly at risk, as they tend to put their hands near or into their mouths, especially if they should do so after touching a piece of ground infected with the worm eggs, or if they are petting a dog that has worms. The egg can enter via contact from hand to mouth, and, in very severe cases, can cause blindness or mental retardation. Although these cases are rare, simple precautions such as always washing your hands after handling a dog, particularly a strange dog, and ensuring that your dog is regularly treated for worms, will prevent this from happening.

It is worth noting that un-wormed cats carry a similar worm -- Toxocara Cati which can also cause the same disease in humans as Toxocara Canis.

You must treat your dog for worms, even if you never see any actual evidence -- the eggs which pass from the dog via the faces are minute. If you should see what appear to be small grains of rice in the faces and around the anal area, that is very clear evidence that your dog has a severe infestation of tapeworms. If you see what look like strands of spaghetti in the faces or vomit, you can be sure that your dog has a roundworm infestation.

There is also a strain of tapeworm, which, if ingested during its development stage, can affect humans, causing a disease called Hydatidosis, which affects the liver and lungs. The good news is that cases of this disease are extremely rare.

All this unpleasantness can be avoided if all dog owners abide by the following simple rules:

1. All puppies should be wormed before leaving the breeder, at three weeks and five weeks of age. They should be wormed again twice more by the time they reach 13 weeks. Thereafter they should be regularly wormed every six months throughout their lives.

Get the worm prevention treatment from your veterinary surgeon -- tablets and powders from the pet shop are not as effective.

2. Bitches who are about to be bred from should be wormed prior to mating and again after the puppies are weaned.

3. All faces should be removed daily from the garden and burned or hygienically disposed of. Always remove any faeces your dog leaves behind when out on exercise.

4. Always wash your hands after handling your dog, before consuming food.

By following these simple procedures, you can be assured that you have taken all possible steps to prevent your dog passing the infection to other dogs or humans.

Grignard Reaction In Aroma Industry

Grignard Reaction In Aroma Industry

"GRIGNARD REACTION- AS POTENTIAL ROUTE FOR

AROMA CHEMICAL SYNTHESIS"

GRIGNARD REACTION In general terms, addition of Grignard reagent to Aldehydes and Ketones is known as the Grignard reaction. It is a reaction of a carbonyl compound with alkyl or arryl Magnesium/Zinc Halide to give an alcohol. Primary, Secondary or Tertiary alcohols may be prepared by the reaction of a suitable carbonyl-containing compound with an alkyl magnesium halide-so called Grignard reagent. The reagent is usually obtained quite readily by adding an alkyl halide to a suspension of magnesium turnings in anhydrous ethers. Initiation of the reaction may require the addition of a few crystals of iodine, the purpose of which may be to form a catalytic amount of Magnesium Iodide or possibly simply to etch the metal surface. As it is important that the iodine should be concentrated at the metal surface the mixture should not be stirred at this stage. Generally used solvents are THF, Dibutyl ether etc.

Formaldehyde gives primary alcohol, other Aldehydes give secondary alcohols, and Ketones give tertiary alcohols by this reaction. The reaction is of very broad scope, and hundreds of alcohols have been prepared by this reaction. The metal used generally is magnesium. But in general Besides Grignard reagents, alkyl-and aryl lithiums and alkyl zinc reagents are also used for attack of carbon on organo-metallic compounds. Organo-tin reagents, aryl lithium, titanium, alluminium are also employed

GR is used in Alkylation, in coupling reactions, for making Esters of Different Functional Groups, Aromatic & Tertiary Thiols etc

ACs like DMBC/DMBCA, DIMETOL, DAMASCONES etc are prepared by GR from many years. Diethyl ether is used as the solvent in many processes in spite of the potential hazards of flammability and formation of explosive peroxides. THF, Dibutyl ether and Diamyl ether have also been used, but these solvents present problems as well.

GR is becoming an important Industrial Process for many ACs productions now a days

Criticalities associated with the Grignard Reaction

Initiation of the reaction

Initiation of the reaction should occur within the first 10-20% addition of the RX solution in ethereal solvent. Evidence for the initiation is large exotherm and a visual change of the magnesium turnings from a bright shiny silver color to a dull gray black. Agitation should be strong enough to shear the magnesium turnings in the reaction mass. Until initiation has been confirmed, no more than 20% of the RX charge should be added to the reactor. Otherwise the large exotherm will release the reaction contents to the atmosphere.

Effect of moisture & Oxygen

Problems are homocoupled product, intra molecular reactions, formation of RMgO2X and noninitiated reaction. Proper manipulation and drying of each component must be carried out. Water in RX and Solvent and Mg must be less than 0.02% and free of Oxygen. Presence of water typically leads to the sudden initiation after all RX has been added. This takes place because the residual water is azeotroped out of the mixture during reflux Or is actually used up by residual Grignard reagent. To prevent this, dry the components properly and manipulate under nitrogen. Addition of small quantity of GR may help for the initiation.

Oxygen will react with GR to form RMgO2X. This peroxo-species can oxidize the other reactants, ligands and catalyst or final product. And the purification problems will arise.

RMgX + H2O ------------------------------à RH + MgX[OH]

Ether and non-polar Hydrocarbons are the generally used solvents, Solvent is selected for yield improvement, stereo chemical and regiochemical control and formation of dialkyl Mg species. The solvent effect is attributed to the solvent's polarity, basicity, steric hindrance etc.

Fad Diets - Don't Believe These 10 Diet Myths

Fad Diets - Don't Believe These 10 Diet Myths

If your nutrition and weight-loss education comes mostly by way of fad diet books and magazine articles, you will believe 10 myths and to lose weight you need to get them out of your head.

Fad diets don't work period - So if you believe any of the following you need to change your view to lose weight.

1. Skipping meals helps you lose weight.

No it does not! it makes you hungrier as it creates huger cravings and actually causes you to over eat. You need to eat 5 meals a day.

2. Your metabolism is slower at night.

Your metabolism doesn't slow down at night.

This fad diet myth comes from the fact that most people eat a larger proportion of calories in the evening and if your metabolism slows down then when you sleep these calories will turn to fat!

As your metabolism is not slower at night, it makes no difference when you eat - it's the overall calories consumed that cause the damage not the time of day their eaten that matters.

3. Carbohydrates cause weight gain.

This is perhaps the most common fad diet myth. This myth has been promoted by high-protein fad diets on the market.

Carbohydrates are your body's premier source of fuel. The thing to keep in mind with cards is good and bad ones and eat the good ones is the

Replace carbs with high sugar content (simple carbs) i.e biscuits and sweets with complex carbs: Fruit, vegetables whole-grain brown rice and cereal.

Not eating carbs will make you sluggish and irritable.

4. Lose weight is hard and a chore.

Well many fad diets are! As they deprive you of foods you love, their therefore hard to stick with.

Fact is we were never designed to be on fad diets. Dieting is all about balance and you can include any foods you love, but if there sugary or fat foods then you just need to eat them in moderation.

5. Fat free foods that are calorie free.

That low-fat label is by no means a license to over indulge
Many low-fat products are loaded with sugar to as a substitute for the missing fat, which means they are just as high in calories as the sugar is simply turned into fat!

6. No Snacks

If you have time to eat 5 meals a day you won't probably want to snack, if it's three times a day a quick snack is a good idea.
At the end of the day, its total calories consumed in a day that counts not how you eat them.

A quick snack can help you stop overeating and keep your energy levels high.

7. Fat is bad for you

Fats are part of the natural food chain of humans and we all need a certain amount of fat to healthy, but we need good ones.

Bad fats increase the risk for certain diseases and good fats lower the risk. The key is to make sure your eating the right fats.

Fats that are actually healthy are referred to as "essential fatty acids." These fats are required for overall health and lower risk of heart disease.

The reason oily fish is so good is that the essential fatty acids contained actually help your body burn fat more efficiently and protect against disease.
8. Cholesterol is bad for you

Cholesterol is a fatty substance that is made by the liver, we all need some blood cholesterol as it's used to build cells and form hormones.

There is good and bad cholesterol.

Saturated fats in foods such as meat, cheese, cream, butter help raise LDL (low density lipoprotein) 'bad' cholesterol.

This then delivers cholesterol to the arteries. HDL (high density lipoprotein) - or 'good' cholesterol - transports cholesterol away from the arteries and back to the liver.
Simply avoid this group or eat in moderation

9. Dairy products make you fat.

Combined with calorie control, a dairy-rich diet can nearly double body-fat reduction and help you lose weight longer term

The reason is they contain the hormone calcitriol, which helps conserve calcium for stronger bones while sending a message to fat cells to convert less sugar to fat and burn more body fat.

10. There is a short cut way to lose weight

This is the myth promoted by all fad diets you can lose weight quickly and be healthy - No you cant. Our bodies are not designed to crash diet and fad diets sound easy but people end up being disappointed.

The only way to lose weight is to do it slowly, with a balanced diet.

Forget fad diets and lose weight the right way.

2 Day Diet Pills - Are They Safe and Do They Work?

2 Day Diet Pills - Are They Safe and Do They Work?

Firstly, let me state that the 2 Day Diet Japan Lingzhi diet pills, along with many other Chinese and so-called "Japanese diet pills" have been tested by the FDA and found to contain prescription medicine and undeclared drugs. While you're still able to purchase them via the internet, the FDA is actively shutting down each operation.

The 2 Day Diet pills are not the only Chinese/Japanese diet pills found to contain undeclared drugs. The complete list of these tainted diet pills is available on the FDA website under recalls and consumer warnings. As they continue to find and test products they update the list and the list is long. These unethical Chinese manufacturers continue to manufacture the 2 Day Diet and create other similar pills for American companies or for anyone who is willing to buy them. They simply change the packaging for their customers and release a new product that the FDA has not yet had a chance to test. According to the FDA, they are having a tough time monitoring incoming diet pills from China and the websites that sell them.

Are the 2 Day Diet pills safe to take?

Answer: According to the ingredient label it contains all natural ingredients. What it really contains is a schedule 4 diet drug, available (legally) only by prescription. Check the FDA website for a complete list of the prescription drugs they have found in these Chinese/Japanese diet pills. Okay, so you need a prescription. But are they safe to take? As with any chemical drug, they will have side-effects. According to the FDA website, no deaths have been reported. The FDA has found these products to contain two and three times the amount of drugs in a normally prescribed dose. And at about 1/20th of the cost of the prescription drug here in the USA.... but that's a subject for another article! Check with your doctor to see if he can prescribe a diet pill that is safe for YOU.

Do they work?

Answer: Absolutely! There's a popular Topix forum thread on the 2 Day Diet pill subject.

For clarification, I'm not saying all diet products from China are loaded with prescription drugs or that all Chinese manufacturers are unethical. I sure hope not because everything comes from China! What about Japanese diet pills? There are no such things! Japan has a highly regulated diet industry. The Chinese slap "made in Japan" on the box to give their product some legitimacy! Also note when you read the box, there is not a manufacturer listed. Although there is some writing in Japanese or Chinese, translators tell us it doesn't list a manufacturer.

Some people will also argue that the FDA did not test the ORIGINAL 2 Day Diet. There's lots of controversy on the subject of real and fake. You'll read a lot about it on the Topix forum. Since no manufacturer will actually claim the product you can consider them all original or all fake. Take your pick! In reality there are many Chinese manufacturers producing the 2 Day Diet. They'll change the packaging slightly and that will spark a whole new debate on fake vs original.

Bottom line.. proceed with caution. Talk to your doctor. And if you do decide to purchase the 2 Day Diet, monitor yourself closely. Read the Topix forum to see how others are doing and the side effects you need to be aware of because they're certainly not written on the label. You'll see that internet advertising is rampant for the 2 Day Diet. They are sold by many legitimate companies. Before taking diet pills, do a little research, monitor yourself carefully and check the forums for complaints.

A Healthy Diet Plan

A Healthy Diet Plan

Introduction

Free diet plan is based on balanced intake of fats, proteins and carbohydrates in different calorie count. Free diet plan stimulates your body burn the fat much easier, only by changing your daily calorie intake. Free diet plans are so common in society that many people have very restrictive ideas about what is healthy and natural in free diet plans eating. The best thing about free diet plan is that you burn the fat only.

Diet

Studies show that a lifestyle approach to nutrition, not a short term crash diet, is most likely to lead to permanent weight loss. You should consult with a health care professional before starting any diet, exercise or supplementation program, before taking any medication, or if you have or suspect you might have a health problem. Monitor your weight or the way your clothing fits on a weekly basis and add or take away calories from your current diet according to what has been happening with your body.

Plan

The Diet Planner is merely a pattern to show individuals an example of what can be eaten for a certain number of calories while dieting. Be sure and follow the information outlined in the Planner Information. The first rule when formulating a diet plan should be to count calories. Don't pay attention to any free diet meal plans, grapefruit diet plan or loss weight fast anorexia tips you've read in the newspapers.

Health

Health & Fitness - Choosing a free diet program is a very difficult task. Healthy eating varies in response to your free diet plans hunger, emotions, schedule, and accessibility to free diet plans food. Healthy eating means leaving half your free diet plans dessert on your plate because you have recognized you are full and satisfied. Healthy eating means being able to eat when free diet plans and to continue eating until you are both physically and psychologically satisfied.

Calories

Try adding or subtracting 100-200 calories per day, and test that level for about a week before you make a decision. The rest of your daily calories can come from carbs. If you are willing to track calories, use a maintenance figure you know is accurate as a starting point, or multiply your body weight by 15 to get an approximation of your maintenance calorie level. *If you have 150-200 pounds to lose, you will need to add an additional 400 calories per day to your diet plan. Do NOT go below 1,200 calories per day or you may lose your hair, your muscles, and any chance of winning the Lotto. If you require a 1,500 calorie diet, simply add 150 more calories to your daily diet. The above calculations are based on average calorie intake of 2250 calories.

Conclusion

Highly effective people and free diet plans achievers always double up and do two things at once whenever possible. We're all in the same boat in the free diet plans beginning and free diet plans intermediate learning stages. So far, the best free diet plans book I've ever read on free diet plans for fat loss is Chris Aceto's "Everything You Need to Know About free diet plans. In addition, free diet plans also contain antioxidants and phytochemicals which have been shown to prevent cancer, heart disease, strokes, and other diseases. A recent study of 23 lean men and 23 obese men found little difference in the total number of free diet plans calories each group consumed. No more than 25 percent of your total free diet plans calories should come from fat, fewer than 10 percent from saturated fat, the most damaging form discussed in detail in the GHF free diet plans component.

Chemical Hazards in Your Chemistry Lab

Chemical Hazards in Your Chemistry Lab

Before beginning a chemistry lab, many colleges and high schools require that you take an entire course on proper precautions to take in the lab as well as the hazards of certain chemical combinations. Working with chemicals can be a dangerous process that even the experts are incredibly cautious about.

It is absolutely essential to first know what chemicals you're working with or surrounded by at all times. In chemistry labs, all chemicals should be properly labeled along with a short description of what the chemical can and cannot come in contact with. The chemical hazard you will most frequently come into contact with are flammable chemicals. These can be in the form of any of the following: diethyl ether, acetone, hexanes, ethanol and methanol. If you come in contact with any of these chemicals during a chemistry lab, it's important that you keep them as far away from flames as possible.

Depending on the flammability rating of the chemical (a number 0-4), you may not even be able to have these chemicals in the room if a fire is burning. For example, diethyl ether has a flammability rating of 4, while acetone, methanol, ethanol and hexanes have a rating of 3. You should never use ether in a lab that has a fire burning, as it can extremely flammable and cause a volatile reaction. The other chemicals mention are more likely to have a combustion type of reaction-- something that should also be avoided.

There are also types of chemicals called "corrosives" that present another hazard in a chemistry lab. These types of chemicals include: hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, nitric acid and sodium hydroxide.

Since strong acids and bases are often used in chemistry labs, it's important to know that these types of chemicals possess a heath rating of 3. This means that even a short exposure to them can cause serious damage and fatal injuries. If any of these chemicals are spilled on the skin, they can cause a chemical burn. These chemicals are also very harmful to your eyes, nasal canal and respiratory passage. Because our bodies are so sensitive to these kinds of chemicals, it's important to always wear protective gear while in the chemistry lab. This includes goggles, gloves, protective clothing and protective shoes. Be especially careful not to spill or inhale any of these chemicals because of the harm they can cause.

For handling chemicals, it's important to use protective, glass cases such as graduated cylinders, flasks and other glassware to keep the chemicals safe and free from spillage. Glassware is normally used because it's transparent, strong and easy to handle. However, glassware also has a high potential for cracking or breaking. It's important that before you place chemicals into a graduated cylinder or other glassware device, that you examine it carefully for cracks or other ruptures. This is highly important because broken glass can cause chemical leakages that can expose your body to harmful substances.

In the event that a chemical does come in contact with you, it's important to know ahead of time the proper steps to take. The chemistry laboratory is liable to have sinks and other types of equipment for washing chemicals off of the body in the event of a spillage accident. If you are exposed to a harmful chemical, it's important to wash whatever part of your body was exposed with cool water and soap and immediately leave the room. Consulting a doctor after the fact may also be a wise decision.

Finally, knowing about the hazards of chemicals in a chemistry lab is important because it can save you from a lot of physical and emotional trauma in the event of a disaster. With all that you've learned, you may even be able to help out one of your peers as well.

God is Dead Theology - Who Started It - What Does it Mean?

God is Dead Theology - Who Started It - What Does it Mean?

Nietzche first coined the phrase God is dead almost a century before the Death of God theological movement reached full flower among the Protestant liberals. He was reacting in despair to the confusion and hopelessness that had been brought down by Kant, Ritschl, and Hume. Kant and Ritschl argued that one could not have a theoretical knowledge of God. They were attacking the Orthodox Theology of a transcendent God who was beyond the experience of fallen mortal man and could only be known by faith. As soon as the Enlightenment and the Age of Reason came on, this became not only permissible but a powerful argument among the philosophical, intellectual, and rational religionists. Hume and the empiricists who followed him went further and they limited all knowledge to that which could be perceived in the material world by the five senses. Since God was not verifiable empirically, the biblical view was labeled as mythology and unacceptable to the enlightened mind of modern man.

Though they had nothing to do with the start of the movement, Rudolph Bultmann, Paul Tillich, and Dietrich Bonhoeffer took up this line of reasoning. It was Bonhoeffer who came up with such phrases as the world and man coming of age, of religionless Christianity, of a world without God, of getting rid of the God of the gaps, and of getting along just as well as before.

Ever since Nietzche, the term God is dead had been used now and again but it was not until 1957, when Gabriel Vanhanian published a book called God Is Dead, that the notion began to form a systematized theology. Vanhanian did not believe that God was dead, but he believed that Christianity had suffered the irretrievable loss of God's influence and presence in contemporary society. He pleaded with the Church to accept this fact, to take what was left, and to make the best of it instead of trying to bring back orthodoxy. But Thomas J.J. Altizer laid hold of this theme and professed that he did believe that God had died. A gross man in his eastern mysticism, his thoughts and his rhetoric, he bellowed out the paradoxical declaration: God is dead, thank God!

For William Hamilton, the death of God meant that the reality of God no longer had any relevancy and there was no meaningfulness in terminology about God. Origins, religion, and all work of the Church must be carried out with nontheistic terms.

Paul van Buren, a name commonly associated with the God Is Dead movement, bitterly denied that he believed this doctrine or that he had anything to do with it. But this protest loses its force and integrity in his book the Secular Meaning of the Gospel. In this book van Buren attempts a redefinition of the Christian faith without a single reference to God anywhere. He, more than any other, gave intellectual, philosophical, and theological sophistication to this movement.

It must be acknowledged, in the interest of fairness, that in a later book, Discerning The Way, van Buren went a long way toward rectifying the impression. But the boar had already been in the vineyard and van Buren, a liberal theologian at best, did not have the moral and spiritual force to erase the images. It may be, however, that this view, which never had a strong and well defined theology, lost much of its force through van Buren's later writings.

Careers Involving Nutrition

Careers Involving Nutrition

In the past years, career opportunities for Nutrition majors have grown as the society realizes the importance of health and wellness. Nutritionists and dietitians have actually become an important part of ensuring that all nutrition and diet related challenges in the home as well as community are properly addressed.

Community Dietician
The main responsibility of a community dietitian is to develop as well as oversee different nutritional programs. Usually, the programs are very specific for a group like children, chronically-ill individuals or the elderly since these groups would have particular nutritional needs. A community dietitian usually works in wellness centers, health maintenance organizations or HMO and public health agencies. To start a career in this capacity, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Dietetics or Nutrition is required.

Nutrition Educator
Working as a Nutrition Educator will entail providing the public with relevant nutritional information. These professionals are usually employed by a government agency, community center or health organizations. Another option is to teach short courses in nutrition and dietetics in a graduate or undergraduate nutrition program. Individuals interested in such career should have a Master's degree or PhD especially for posts in a college or university.

Clinical Dietician
For nutrition majors who want to be involved in nutritional health management or therapy, a job as a clinical dietician will be perfect. They usually work in hospital, nursing home or clinic setting. Some privately-practicing physicians also hire clinical dietitians to provide them with proper nutritional assistance. At the least, a degree holder in nutrition or dietetics will be required. In addition, registration to the American Dietetic Association is a must.

Food Service Manager
A manager in the food service industry will involve overseeing the food being served. Whether in a hospital, restaurants, school and nursing homes; the food service manager's responsibility is to make sure that the public will be eating healthy foods that are also safe for consumption. Since these institutions will require unique programs for proper food preparation and selection, managers will most likely undergo training to be able to fulfill these responsibilities.

Fad Diets - Why They Are Bad - 3 Reasons Why Your Fad Diet Didn't Work

Fad Diets - Why They Are Bad - 3 Reasons Why Your Fad Diet Didn't Work

Everyone starts a diet with only the best of intentions. When you chose your last diet, maybe it was one that you've heard a lot of good things about. It worked for these other people, it should work for you, is what you thought. So, you proceeded to throw out your sodas and junk food and start fresh by eating a group of specific foods that the plan promises will help you drop those pounds in no time.

That first day, you're really optimistic. Sure, you can eat only what it says for you to eat and not a bit more! You breeze through that first day with no problem. On the third day of eating this way, you're still hanging in there, but you're feeling a little cranky from not being able to eat that burger you saw your friend eating at lunch. You convince yourself that food shouldn't make you happy - it's all about the calories.

On the fifth day of eating your fad diet food, you're finding it difficult to raise the fork up to your mouth for one more bite of this stuff. You've been daydreaming about all the foods you miss, pizza, fries, burgers, chips, ice cream . . . you know you can't have them, but shoot. Why does dieting have to be so hard?

On day seven, you're so tired, cranky and hungry that you start to hate the sight of that salad sitting in front of you. Yeah, it's healthy, but what you really want is some REAL food. You decide right then and there that you're going to kick this diet thing to the curb and go back to eating normal again.

As you bite into that juicy burger (with all the fixings), you feel good that you're not going to be hungry anymore, but you also feel guilty for abandoning yet another diet that you swore to yourself you'd stay on until you lost X amount of pounds. If only you had more willpower.

What went wrong?

It's not your lack of willpower that derailed you.

Reason #1 - The diet was too strict. Many diets require you to follow a plan of eating only certain foods that fit into the low-fat or low-carb category. Fad diets in particular tend to restrict you to eating a very small group of foods. The plan forces you to eat these foods over and over again, and your body just isn't getting enough nutrition to sustain you for more than a few days. How can you stay positively motivated, when your brain is foggy and you feel weak and cranky?

Reason #2 - Old eating habits are hard to break - Think about it. A diet requires you to go cold turkey from eating anything you like, to following a regimented eating plan. One day you're eating pepperoni pizza, the next day you're eating nothing but salad and nuts. It's hard for your mind to make a mental adjustment that quickly. It's better to gradually introduce healthier foods into your diet. For instance, you can learn how to make a healthy pizza.

Reason #3 - Maybe you haven't committed to making a total lifestyle change when it comes to the foods you eat. Most fad diets are only for the short term. If your intention for going on the diet is to drop 5 - 10 pounds quickly, then you might achieve that goal temporarily, but you aren't learning how to eat better for your health for the long term. Ultimately, this lack of commitment leads to gaining back that 5 - 10 pounds.

How One Woman Beat Cancer With Food

How One Woman Beat Cancer With Food

More than 20 years ago, when I was 47-year-old doctoral student in psychology, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Of course, I was devastated. At the time, I had been running for 15 years, and I was the most physically fit person I knew. It was incomprehensible to me that I had cancer.

After surgery, further testing determined that the cancer had already spread. Nevertheless, instead of the recommended radiation and chemotherapy, I put my faith in Dr. John McDougall, a physician who was then researching the relationship between a vegan diet (no animal products) and breast cancer. Though I had previously stopped eating red meat, when diagnosed, I was still eating other animal products and my blood tests showed elevated cholesterol levels. So, with the assistance of Dr. McDougall, I eliminated all animal products, including fish and dairy. Today, as I approach my 70th cancer-free birthday, I relish my vegan diet and daily run. I am a six-time Ironman Triathlon finisher, holder of more than 900 gold medals from every distance from 100 meter to 5K road races to ultramarathons and triathlons. I have completed more than 60 marathons all over the world and I have made three world fitness records in my age group at the Cooper Clinic in Dallas, Texas. In 1999, I was named one of the "Top Ten Fittest Women in North America."

I also redirected my academic course of study. I was so impressed with what my new diet did for me that I changed from psychology to health education, with majors in nutrition and exercise physiology. I am firmly convinced that a key element in my sustained health is my vegan diet. Moreover, since most plant foods are low in calories (exceptions are nuts, seeds, avocados, olives, and coconuts), I also eat a lot more than most people while keeping a healthy weight. So, I am never hungry. From 1982 until 2000, I ate a vegan diet that included grains and some processed foods.

I began most mornings with oatmeal, bananas, and raisins moistened with water or apple juice and a teaspoon of blackstrap molasses. To boost the nutritional value, I added greens such as kale, edible hibiscus, seaweed or cabbage. Occasionally, I had pancakes or waffles covered with applesauce or fruit purée (instead of butter or margarine).

Lunch consisted of a number of possibilities such as baked or microwaved potatoes with carrot and broccoli sticks, whole wheat pita bread stuffed with sliced mixed vegetables, a whole wheat bagel with an orange and apple, or brown rice mixed with succotash. When eating lunch in a restaurant, I often asked for a bread sandwich -- a whole grain bun or two slices of bread. I then stuffed the bread with greens, tomato, bell pepper, and onions.

Dinner was often similar to lunch. Or, it included such options as spaghetti made with whole-wheat pasta and sauce prepared with tomato paste, onions, garlic, bell peppers, chopped broccoli, and seasonings, or chili made with kidney beans, tomato sauce, onions, garlic, bell pepper, chili power and lots of brown rice. I made pizza with whole-wheat crust covered with a tomato-based sauce with chopped green onions, round onions, bell peppers, mushrooms, and alfalfa sprouts.

Between meals, I never allowed myself to become hungry. I nibbled on fruit, carrots, whole grain breads, air-popped popcorn, and sweet potatoes. To avoid any temptation, I did not keep any high fat foods in my home. For dessert, I ate fruit or air-popped popcorn.

In 2000, I eliminated grains and processed foods from my diet. I now eat only raw foods. Since I begin most days with a three to four hour workout, usually including an hour on the bike, a weight session or a swim, followed by an hour's run, I don't eat breakfast until later in the morning. Then, I have a big bowl filled with greens, one carrot, half a mango, a large banana, and six large grapes. The mixture is topped with one round tablespoon of B12 fortified nutritional yeast and one to two tablespoons of blackstrap molasses.

Since breakfast is so late, I do not eat a full meal again until dinner. Dinner includes lots of greens such as broccoli, stalks of kale, celery, unpeeled English cucumber, cabbage, a carrot, one half bell pepper, one half large tomato, six cloves of garlic, and half of a yam or sweet potato, raw. The mixture is topped with one to two cups of salsa, one tablespoon regular mustard, and one tablespoon freshly ground flaxseed.

Dessert consists of blueberries and a second fruit, a small handful of walnuts, and one tablespoon blackstrap molasses. Throughout the day, I snack on carrots, celery sticks, grapes, dates, and, in the evening, I eat air-popped popcorn.

As long as you eat a sufficient amount of calories, you cannot be deficient in protein. Since all vegetables contain adequate amounts of all the essential amino acids, you will obtain all the essential amino acids you require from a plant-based diet. Moreover, because you are obtaining calcium from the same source as cows - that is plant foods, primarily greens-- you will have enough calcium.

While you should make a point of drinking lots of water, I also recommend two other beverages. To replace your morning coffee, try drinking a mug of hot water with one teaspoon of blackstrap molasses. And, since I live in Hawaii, where it is always warm outside, I enjoy keeping a jug of homemade lemonade in the refrigerator. I make it by squeezing half a lemon into a half-gallon jug of water and then add a little sweetener.

My raw vegan diet gives me an unbelievable amount of energy. Of course, without such energy, I could never compete in all the events that I do, especially the Ironman Triathlon. I almost never miss a day of training. As a bonus, I sleep like the proverbial rock.

In addition to changing your diet, this is a good time to modify your behavior. One of the most important things that you can do is to incorporate regular exercise into your life. To help keep you motivated, you should consider joining a group. Although I ran for about 15 years by myself, after I joined a group of runners, I increased my distance and began to really challenge myself. And, while I find swimming by myself somewhat boring, swimming as a group is fun. In case of an accident or mechanical failure, longer bike rides should always include at least one other biker. Plus, rides are more enjoyable with other people. Where I live in Hawaii, there is never a shortage of people who want to go for a ride. Over time I have come to realize that triathletes are among the most sociable people I have ever met. So, whatever your age, give it a try. When exercise is fun, you won't have trouble making yourself do it!

Survival Movies - The Cream of the Crop and Those That Didn't Shine

Survival Movies - The Cream of the Crop and Those That Didn't Shine

Survival Movies, Best to the Worst!

The popularity of survival movies has really grown over the past couple of years. I have rated these movies in three different categories. The categories are: realisticness, survival value and entertainment factor. Each of these is on a A - F Grading Scale with A being best and F being worst. These ratings are all based on my opinion so you may not feel the same.

Waterworld - Realisticness - D Survival Value - D Entertainment factor - C+
The Earth is now filled with water, but some people believe there is still dry land on the earth. This is one of the many survival movies about the fight over resources. As in many movies, this is a fight between the protagonist (Kevin Costner) and the antagonist (Dennis Hopper) and his cronies (called the smokers). This movie is fun to watch but I don't feel it was realistic or offered much in the way of survival value.

The Postman - Realisticness - B Survival Value - C Entertainment factor - B
I feel the reviews of this movie by critics don't give it justice. In this film, the United States is a very different place with little order. Many people have gone back to a dark ages style of living with no electricity, very little law, and a tyrant thug (Will Patton) trying to gain power. The protagonist (Kevin Costner), a drifter, finds a way to make a difference in the world even though he is originally only worried about his own livelihood and well - being. This was a very long movie, but I really enjoyed it and liked its sense of hope. I thought this movie offered decently realistic insight on what could happen with a breakdown of society and numerous years of lawlessness. It had a few areas that I think gave it some survival value, but overall, it was just one of the entertaining survival movies.

The Road - Realisticness - A Survival Value - B Entertainment factor - C
While I didn't feel this was one of the survival movies that lived up to my expectations, I feel it accurately portrayed the emotional rollercoaster that an end of the world situation would create. The characters in this movie were not able to trust anyone around them, and they lacked the resources necessary to carry on a normal life, which could be an accurate outcome in a real societal breakdown. I think this movie, while being boring in some spots, felt very realistic and showed the dreary outlook of the main character (Viggo Mortenson) in a post apocalyptic world with no hope. On the survival value front, I thought there were some topics to take away from the story line that would be useful in real life. I felt that this movie allowed me to realize that striving for happiness and wishing to live life to the fullest despite terrible circumstances is key to beating the end.

I am Legend - Realisticness - C Survival Value - B -
Entertainment factor - B This is another of the survival movies that I think showed great emotion. The main character (Will Smith) and his dog attempt to survive throughout this film despite the constant threat of zombies. I will say this movie has one of the saddest scenes in any movie I have ever seen, which makes the whole movie worth watching. This survival movie really shows you how important a companion is when you are lonely. Other than the importance of companionship, there were only a few survival lessons to be learned.

Book of Eli - Realisticness - C Survival Value - C
Entertainment factor - B I felt Book of Eli with Denzel Washington and Mila Kunis was worth the watch. This survival movie showed how important being aware of your surroundings is. Also in a disaster ridden world it shows how there will be people that will take power any way they see fit. The use of religion to control people is what the antagonist (Gary Oldman) uses to gain power. If you are a Christian or are religious this is definitely an important movie to watch because it shows how people can use religion and the Bible for good as well as evil to push their own motives. Even so, in the end, this movie didn't show the Bible or Christianity in a bad light. I thought the lesson of being aware was the best survival value it gave.

Jeremiah Johnson - Realisticness - A
Survival Value - B Entertainment factor - B Jeremiah Johnson (Robert Redford) is one of the best survival movies. This movie is about a man who wants to live as a hermit living off the land, who wishes to be left alone to do his own thing. This is the oldest movie on my list and also one of the best. I believe it has great survival value and is quite realistic. In one scene, Jeremiah Johnson finds a man who has been dead for a while with a note on him saying, "I, Hatchet Jack, being of sound mind and broke legs, do hereby leaveth my bear rifle to whatever finds it, Lord hope it be a white man. It is a good rifle, and killt the bear that killt me. Anyway, I am dead. Yours truly, Hatchet Jack." How can you not love this movie with a scene like that? This movie is great at depicting how to live off the land and be self - sufficient.

Castaway - Realisticness - B Survival Value - C Entertainment factor - B
Castaway, starring Tom Hanks, is a family survival movie. There is some survival value to this movie like starting a fire or taking an abscessed tooth out with an ice skate. The main character is involved in a commercial UPS type plane crash that leaves him stranded on an island with no other survivors. It illustrates how ingenious people can be when they do not have the conventional tools for survival.

Into the Wild - Realisticness - A Survival Value - B Entertainment factor - B
Into the wild is the true survival story of Christopher McCandless (Emile Hirsch) who gives up his ordinary life to roam the US and live in Alaska. This is an ultimate adventure movie that shows how Christopher lived all by himself in the Alaskan wilderness with only what he could carry on his back. This film offered good survival value, and it taught me something very important: never eat wild plants unless you know exactly what they are and if they are safe to eat.

Zombieland - Realisticness - D Survival Value - D Entertainment factor - A -
This is really a comedic approach at the survival and zombie genre. While there is really no realisticness or survival value to speak of it, is very funny. This survival movie stars Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, and Emma Stone. During the film, they all come together to help each other survive a zombie infested world. In my opinion, one of the best cameos of all time occurs during this movie. Just watch and see!

28 Days Later - Realisticness - B Survival Value - C Entertainment factor - B
28 Days Later is a survival movie starring Cillian Murphy (Batman Begins). After a virus wipes out almost everybody on the planet, a few survivors come together to try and find a safe place to live. This was a good movie that portrayed what could happen if an epidemic were to spread very quickly. This survival movie does not have tons of survival value, but it still provides insight on the possibility of a nation or worldwide epidemic.

Mad Max/Road Warrior/Beyond Thunderdome - Realisticness - D Survival Value - D Entertainment factor - B
Mad Max, The Road Warrior, and Beyond Thunderdome are very entertaining and fun survival movies to watch, but they are very unrealistic. Mel Gibson stars as Mad Max, a man who lives in a post apocalyptic world who also tries to improve life for himself and others. There really was not much survival value in these movies, but there are cool vehicles with many types of weapons, which makes them entertaining.

Red Dawn - Realisticness - B - Survival Value - B Entertainment factor - A+
Red Dawn is not just one of my favorite survival movies, but also one of my favorite movies It has quite a few stars before they were household names (Patrick Swayze, Charlie Sheen, Lea Thompson and Jennifer Grey). The Russians and Cubans have taken part of Colorado and are rounding people up, whom they believe to be threats, into camps. A group of high schoolers get together and live in the woods. They badge themselves the "Wolverines" and try to take back the land that was previously theirs. This is a great movie that provided survival value in the way of outdoor living, hunting and fishing. The other thing I love about this movie, that others have also expressed, is that when you finish watching this movie, you feel extremely patriotic and proud of the great people that live in the United States.

Rescue Dawn - Realisticness - A Survival Value - B Entertainment factor - C
This survival movie is the true story of Dieter Dengler (Christian Bale), a German American fighter pilot whose plane is shot down over Laos during the Vietnam War and captured. I believe this film gives you a picture of how the living conditions in prisoner camps were. Additionally, it shows how important having a strong - will is when you need to get out of a seemingly dead end situation. There are many scenes in this film that have survival value, especially when they escape from the camp and must live outdoors and survive in the wild.

Alone Across Australia - Realisticness - A Survival Value - B+ Entertainment factor - B+
This is survival documentary is not well known, but still provides pretty great survival value. The only reason I saw this was because I attended a small independent film festival in my town. This is the story of Jon Muir and his dog that set out on a trip across Australia with only him, his dog, and what he could carry on his homemade cart. This is a great look at survival and has the highest survival value out of any of the survival movies I have reviewed. Out of all the movies I've ever seen, this film probably has the saddest scene because what happened in the movie was what happened in real life. If you get a chance, definitely watch this documentary. The only problem is it is difficult to find and usually expensive because of its rarity.

Bee Pollen Weight Loss Pills Reviews - Handle With Caution!

Bee Pollen Weight Loss Pills Reviews - Handle With Caution!

When you read some of the bee pollen weight loss pills reviews on the Internet or watch the videos on YouTube, one thing strikes you straightaway. This is the fact that the actual quantities are rarely mentioned and also the source is never revealed. These are two essential elements as I will explain below. This article is to warn you of the dangers in believing the hype and what to look for in a really good, safe product. That is why I have used the words 'handle with caution' in the title.

The main problem is that all the other ingredients which are usually in the mix are hardly of any benefit at all in helping with weight loss. These include:-

Chinese yam

Wolfberry fruit

Dietary fiber (unspecified!)

Oolong tea

Hawthorn

Lotus leaf

Mulberry leaves

Cassia.

Actually most of the above ingredients in the typical bee pollen weight loss pills reviews will definitely have a laxative effect or act as colon cleansers. So the immediate effect may well be a loss of weight! But this is short lived. There are also not enough studies done to show that they can really help with weight loss at all and in fact, some problems and worries have been raised.

There is nothing wrong with Chinese traditional medicine but there are problems in checking the sources. For example, some Chinese ingredients may be sourced from endangered species such as the tiger or worse still may actually contain nasty things like arsenic or mercury. Others are included because they are easily sourced or look good on the label.

Let us take Chinese yam for example which is usually suitable for treating things like exhaustion, coughs and urogenital disorders. It is of little use in weight loss.

Only about 10% of the Chinese supplements industries and factories will actually be anywhere near GMP standards. This is different from the pharmaceutical companies who have successfully applied these standards in China.

Bee Pollen

As I mentioned above, the actual amount of this is rarely mentioned. Now in sufficient quantities it is actually great for weight loss in that it:-

can act as an appetite suppressant in that it contains a natural phenylalanine element

it stops food cravings because it has a complete range of nutrients

it can normalize metabolic function

it can help with the fat burning process

Now these are tried and trusted functions of bee pollen especially when it forms part of a weight loss control program and is just not relied on alone.

As regards sourcing, the best place to find this marvelous supplement is in New Zealand, especially in the North west corner of South Island where there is a nature reserve. The pure cooling winds from the Antarctic also help to really produce raw material which is second to none. There are no extreme climatic conditions either. You will be safe in the knowledge that there is a complete lack of hype which you tend to find in the classic bee pollen weight loss pills reviews.

Biography of Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Biography of Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Dietrich Bonhoeffer was a religious leader in Germany who was also very active in the resistance movement against the Nazis. Bonhoeffer was a Lutheran leader, who was part of the plot that the Military Intelligence Office was hatching to assassinate Hitler. However, the assassination failed and Bonhoeffer was arrested and then hanged.

Bonhoeffer was born in Breslau, Germany on February 4, 1946. Breslau is modern-day Wrawclaw located in Poland. His family was upper middle class; his father was a psychiatrist in Berlin, while his mother was a homemaker who homeschooled the children.

At an early age, Bonhoeffer showed interest in becoming a minister, and his parents supported him. He attended college at Tubingen and then went on to receive a doctorate in Theology from the University of Berlin. After that, he was ordained as a minister. However, he wanted to study further and spent a year in New York City at the Union Theological Seminary.

In 1931, he returned to Germany. He became a lecturer in Theology in Berlin and wrote many books. He was against Nazism, and he set up the Confessing Church along with Martin Niemoller, Karl Barth and other people with similar views.

Between 1933 and 1935, he went to London where he was a pastor for two German speaking Protestant churches. Thereafter, he returned to Germany to become the head of the seminary of Confessing Church. However, this was illegal and was closed down in 1937. In addition, the Gestapo banned Bonhoeffer from preaching, teaching and speaking in public. During this time, he was closely associated with people who were against Hitler and considered as his opponents.

During World War II, Bonhoeffer was key leader for the Confessing Church, which was against the anti-semitic policies of Hitler. He called for other churches to unite and resist the treatment being meted out to Jews. Although Confessing Church was not big, it was still the major opposition by a Christian church to the policies of the Nazis in Germany.

In 1939, Bonhoeffer joined high ranking military officers from the Military Intelligence Office who were planning to overthrow the Nazis by killing Hitler. However, he was arrested in 1943 after the authorities managed to trace the money that was used to help Jews escape to him. He was imprisoned for a year and half in Berlin.

On July 20, 1944, the plot to assassinate Hitler failed, and the authorities managed to discover that Bonhoeffer had connections with the perpetrators of the plot. It was then Bonhoeffer was moved from one prison to another until he ended up in Flossenburg concentration camp. Here he was hanged just three weeks before the city was liberated by the allies. Besides Bonhoeffer, his brother Klaus, brother-in-law Hans von Dohnanyi and Rudiger Schleicher were executed for their parts in the plot.

In 1990s, the German government absolved Bonhoeffer of any crime. However, even today, there is a lot of debate as to why Bonhoeffer moved from Christian pacifism to planning the assassination of Hitler.

The Evolution of a Runner / Part Two: All the Pain a 5k Can Bring!

The Evolution of a Runner / Part Two: All the Pain a 5k Can Bring!

Hello everyone, this is Adam Gonzalez. In my last article, I wrote about some of my training tips I used to prepare myself for a 5k. This time around, I would personally like to share my ups and downs. I remember being nervous, nauseous, tired, my feet were killing me, my face was bright red, I was both sweating and freezing at the same time. And that was before I even started the race.

To be honest, I felt as if I had no business running a 5k. I was in way over my head. I did not fit the bill in regards to being a runner. I have always had this image of runners, who were in just in the best shape of their lives and lived to run. The image that I had of myself, was of someone who could throw down at an all you can eat Buffet. My biggest hurdle was not the race; it was that I cared way too much on how I thought people saw me.

I will have to admit, something that happened to me after I finished my 5k. For the very first time in my life, I actually felt good about myself! It was an overall feeling of accomplishment. Yes, it was just a 5k, but it put me on the path that I'm on right now and I would not trade it for anything! It was not until I had a moment of clarity when I realized; that I was not doing this for anyone but myself! I started to use portion control to lose weight and I started to cut down on the garbage I put in my body. It did not take long before I started to see positive changes in myself.

I hope you guys did not have those thoughts that I had; it's a pretty shitty feeling. If you did, like I said earlier, you are not alone! I'm here writing this article and hoping that people will make a change in their life. You can begin right now, Reading this article is a great start! I don't need to be a nutritionist or a dietitian to know that I should not put all the junk food in my body. I am writing this article hoping to inspire, motivate and most of all be a friend. I can take criticism, but I have been down that road before and I know with all my heart that we all must crawl before we walk.

Change is scary, But it can also lead you on the path to great things. I was never one to take chances, because I was too afraid of the end result. Regardless of the outcome, I never before took a chance on anything or even myself for that matter. I'm not going to sugar coat it, Running is hard! All the pain you feel when you run and the injuries that come along with it, totally sucks! But it goes away, I can assure you that. Running to me is like life, everyone has good days and bad days. Diet - Why Most Diets Fail

Diet - Why Most Diets Fail

Why a diet fails: How many times have you failed at a diet? If you are anything similar to the average American man or woman, you must have failed at least 3 times at dieting, at various times in your life. And you blame yourself for it, right? Lack of willpower, determination, discipline... you know the works!

Well, here is the scoop. If you failed at a diet, it really is not your fault because most diets are inherently designed to FAIL!!

Let me give four of the most obvious reasons why any diet fails:

The truth about crash diets: There is a lot of negativity surrounding the word 'crash diet'. Basically diets crash because they ignore the needs of the body. They advocate severe calorie cuts. But the important thing to remember is that food contains more than just calories. Your food also contains all the nutrients your body needs. Your body needs all vital nutrients, in their right proportions. Any diet that ignores or drastically cuts out one or more of these nutrients is heading for failure. Another reason is that crash diets recommend such low intakes of food that it is tough to remain on a crash diet for long. The moment you stop dieting and start eating normally, your body begins to store fat so that it has resources to fall back on when the next diet hits it. So, you see, crash diets are an open guarantee to rebound weight gain. Besides, crash diets take a heavy toll on your endurance, emotions and self-esteem. All around, crash diets are an unhappy and unfulfilled experience. Little wonder that they are also unfruitful!

Diet regimes that are too tough: You may have heard of a number of diets that boast of their power to make you lose weight fast. What do you need to do? O, not much! Just follow their complicated instructions to make lunch or dinner match their calorie specs perfectly. Can you imagine yourself doing this regularly, over any length of time? I know I would not slog over the perfect cabbage soup or lemon diet when I have to run for work in the morning and come back dead beat at night, ready to flop into bed. A diet plan with simple meal plans is the only one that will work, in the long run!

Exotic diets and what they mean: Ever come across a diet that tells you to eat something that is not locally available? I have come across many of them. While I am happy to receive the exotic stuff one or two times, I do not have the patience or the money to keep splurging. So, such a diet soon dies a quiet death. Your regular diet should be based on foods that you have easy access to.

Fad diets have no future: Fad diets are like a flash in the plan. One fine morning, everyone is talking about them. The internet is full of their praises and every celebrity you read of is going gung-ho about the diet. 6 months or a year later, the diet is nowhere to be seen. Fad diets are something of a fashion trend. They come and go in regular cycles. They promise lots but deliver little. In the long run, they are only successful in earning their makers a good amount of money, at your expense.

I could go on and give you more reasons why diets like the above fail. But, you get the drift, don't you?

Now that you know what kinds of diet fail, what are the characteristics of diets that are successful? What strategies do people who successfully lose weight adopt? What makes them succeed?

Best Diet Pills on the Market

Best Diet Pills on the Market

A diet pill or weight lose drug refers to all pharmacological agents that reduce or control a person's weight. These drugs alter one of the fundamental mechanisms of the body, which is weight regulation. This happens by either altering appetite, metabolism or the absorption of calories.

Most people try them and if there is no positive result discontinue them. Because of the potential side effects it should only be prescribed in the event of obesity where maybe the benefits could outweigh the risks. Diet pills operate through one or more of the following routes:

Suppression of the appetite:

Catecholamines and there derivatives are the main weapons used for this. drugs blocking the cannabiniod receptors may be the future strategy for appetite suppression.

Increase in the body's metabolism

Interference with the body's ability to absorb different nutrients in food.

Anorexics are intended to suppress the appetite, but most drugs in this category tend to act like stimulants.

Here are the best diet pills on the market:

Orlistat:

This diet pill reduces intestinal fat absorption by inhibiting pancreatic lipase. This diet pill is originally available by prescription. it has now been approved by the FDA as an over the counter sale since February 2007. the pill may cause frequent oily bowel movements if there is a lot of fat in the diet.

Sibutramine:

Is an anorectic or appetite suppressant, it reduces the desire to eat. The diet pill may high blood pressure and may cause dry mouth, insomnia, headache, and constipation

Metformin:

If a person has diabetes this diet pill can reduce weight.

Rimonabant:

This is a recently developed diet pill and it usually acts centrally on the brain and thus reduces appetite. they not only cause weight loss but they prevent or reverse the metabolic effects of obesity.

Exenatide:

This drug delays gastric emptying and promotes a felling of satiety. not all patients experience substantial weight loss while on the diet pill. Therefore it is recommended only for diabetic patients.

Pramlintide:

This drug also delays gastric emptying and promotes a feeling of satiety. again it is usually prescribed for diabetic patients.

Some diet pills have life threatening side effects. these side effects are associated with their mechanism of action. In general stimulant carry a risk of high blood pressure, increased heart beat, glaucoma, drug addiction and insomnia.

One of the best diet pills on the market Orlistat blocks the absorption of dietary fat, and as a result may cause oily bowel movements.

If I was to recommend Orlistat as one of the best diet pills on the market i would say yes. At least it has the least side effects.

Fill What's Empty, Empty What is Full

Fill What's Empty, Empty What is Full

I just recently saw this film on Direct TV called "Rescue Dawn" with Christian Bale and I was inspired by this man's story as well as the actors playing these very unromantic but realistic roles.

The film is based on a true story about a man, a US fighter pilots--Dieter Dengler who struggles to survive after his plane was shot down during war. He was found, tortured and sent to a prison camp run by peasants. The film is not easy to watch, but the meaning is powerful because he is the only one out of five other POW's/men (some of whom have been in the camp for over two years) that demands he/they get out! Dieter said, "we must figure out a way to escape, no matter what it takes, cuz I will not die here."

I couldn't help but think--this is how many of use feel sometimes: Trapped by our own "peasant-like" attitude those small, defeated and fearful thoughts and feelings that keep us imprisoned in our minds and thus lives.

"Just stay alive, just get by and try to make ends meet, that's all I ask" We find ourselves saying. But that's not inspiring nor does it reveal any HEART or Passion!

This man, Dieter was passionate about his freedom and he wasn't about to sit back and let his freedom be taken from him--especially when the compromise meant slow death! Am I starting to make the hair on your head stand up? I hope so.

Through a series of events, including torture, starvation etc-- he eventually escapes to the jungle and barely making it out there alone--he is finally seen by a US aircraft. When he arrives back home (there is more to the story so you'll have to see it for yourself) they ask him what he has to say and here's what he says,

"Fill what's empty, empty what is full and scratch where it itches."

I found this statement to be hysterical and yet meaningful because if it's simplicity. Also because this man had just undergone what many of us will NEVER experience-- thank goodness! And he came out alive, a lot thinner but alive with his mind in tact. He knew the value of LIFE!

Dieter understood that life is worth something--it's worthy living! Dieter was a German/American and fought as a pilot because he loved his country--and because of the freedom he was given to choose his profession and what he wanted to devote his mind to!

But how many of us forget this truth? How many of us still go about our day claiming we are victims to our situation, Do you ever find yourself saying these things inside or aloud to others:

- It's not my fault,"

- I can't do that,

- they won't let me do that,

- I wish I could but I am too old,

- I am too young to do that...

- I wasn't born into the right family

- I don't have the money!

And on and on. You get the point. These excuses we create ourselves and it is up to us to choose something different. If Dieter Dengler can manage to RESCUE himself, so can we! --

Help! I'm in Love With the Man I've Been Having an Affair With

Help! I'm in Love With the Man I've Been Having an Affair With

Falling in love with the other man might not have been on your agenda when the affair began. Now that it has happened you're going to have to deal with it. The sooner you deal with it the better for both your sakes. It rarely happens intentionally but when it does happen it can be devastating. Regardless you are going to have to make some hard choices in the near future. What do you do when you fall in love with the man you've been cheating on your husband with?

1) Find out whether it's real love or not. Sometimes it just feels like love. It's kind of like rebound relationships. The passion is so intense and the release from the fulfillment he allows you to have (between the two of them all your needs may be getting met). Do you honestly feel that he can meet all your needs on his own though?

2) Decide whether or not you still love your husband. Chances are that you do still love your husband. Most affairs aren't about love. If you happen to fall in love by prolonging the affair that's one thing but in the beginning they aren't always a plea for more love.

3) Which man will help you meet your goals for the future best. It may seem a bit cold to analyze the situation this way but if you are trying to choose one man over another you need some cold hard logic to help you make the decision.

4) What is it about the "other man" that you've fallen in love with? Is it attraction, infatuation, or something that goes much deeper? If it isn't a deep and abiding kind of love the odds are good that you'll be able to recover quickly and move on if you cut all ties quickly.

5) Talk to the other man and find out if he feels the same way. Be honest with the other man. Tell him that you're torn between the two of them. Ask him where he'd like to see your relationship go in the future. It might be about the forbidden for him and he might want to keep things as they are. In other words, it could ruin the relationship for him if you leave your husband. He could also feel the same way but may fear letting you know how he feels. One huge reason for holding off on telling you is that he doesn't want to pressure you. Before you decide to leave you husband you need to know how the other man feels about that decision.

Diet Pills: A Rapid Fire With Adipex

Diet Pills: A Rapid Fire With Adipex

"The last time I ever looked at mirror and smiled at me was 5 years back"; "My prayers were answered like magic; I have lost 20 pounds"; "You have to try these diet pills to believe you can!"-these are some of the real statements people give as an inspiration to the ones trying to lose weight. You must have come across them a thousand times on T.V., internet, magazines etc. In all, these diet pills sure tempt you to lose weight the easy way.

Let's look at some numbers to understand the impact of obesity in USA!

About 58 million people in US are overweight and alarmingly out of this 40 million are obese and 3 million are clinically obese. This calls for some rapid fire solution to stop the obesity epidemic from exploding!

Losing weight the effective way:

Diet pills seem to be the answer to those looking for a quick fix to cure obesity. There are some popular choices in the market and adipex being one of them. Let's look at the drug a little bit more closely.

What is adipex?

Adipex is a prescription drug often prescribed by doctors and used for short term weight reduction. People often tend to buy adipex online or as an OTC drug without knowing its various side effects on the body.

How is adipex taken?

Adipex is usually taken early in the morning and is swallowed with a glass of water rather than chewing. This pill should never be taken in the afternoon, evening or at night as it may cause sleeping disorders.

How does adipex work?

Adipex is not a diet supplement and are meant for very short period of time. This diet pill stimulates the hypothalamus of our brain and prompts our central nervous system to suppress appetite. That is why extra precaution should be followed and should not be taken without a doctor's consultation.

Who all should not take adipex?

The side effects of adipex like diet pills contain harmful amphetamine and therefore should be administered with great care. Elderly people above the age of 60, young ones below 16, pregnant women and breast feeding mothers should strictly avoid adipex under all circumstances as this pill can cause much damage to the body. Also people suffering from thyroid, glaucoma, anxiety disorders, diabetes, high blood pressure, epilepsy or seizures etc. are not advised to take adipex as this may threaten health condition.

Is adipex safe for all?

Diet pills like adipex, phentermine etc. when combined with exercise and balanced diet can really show some outstanding results. One must not look beyond a 10 pound reduction from the body weight as this would prolong the usage of the particular drug. It is a good idea to always go for a doctor's advise before using diet pills like phentermine, adipex, ioamine etc. as these rapid fat burners tend to stimulate central nervous system of the body. However the best way to go about reducing weight is to always take care of healthy food habits, regulated life style and daily exercise to eliminate toxic wastes and purify blood streams in our body.

Use Sample Diabetic Menus To Create Your Ideal Diet Plan

Use Sample Diabetic Menus To Create Your Ideal Diet Plan

The right diet is extremely important in treating diabetes. The wrong food choices and eating habits can easily aggravate your condition and turn it into a life-threatening disease. If you are willing to make adjustments to your diet for the sake of your health, consider the sample diabetic menus provided below and base your next meal plans on them.

What is Diabetes?

Diabetes occurs when blood sugar or glucose levels inside your body become increasingly high. In type 1 diabetes, this is a result of your body's inability to produce the all-important pancreatic hormone insulin. In type 2 diabetes, your body is capable of producing insulin, but it's producing below what's needed or it's unable to fully utilize its insulin production.

When not treated properly, diabetes can cause damage to other parts of your body such as your nerves, kidneys, eyes, and even your heart. It is not uncommon for diabetics to have one or more of their limbs amputated because of their worsening condition.

If you have type 2 diabetes, diet is all the more important. Symptoms of type 2 diabetes include but are not limited to frequent thirst and urination, fatigue, and blurry visions. There are however cases in which no symptoms are visible at all.

Recipe for the Right Diet for Diabetics

Contrary to popular opinion, a diabetic diet doesn't have to be boringly repetitive and tasteless. With a little creativity, you can turn your diet into something just as sumptuous as any other normal diet.

A typical diet for diabetics consist largely of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains as well as a healthy mixture of lean proteins, complex carbohydrates, and good fats or unsaturated fats. Generally, your diet must be nutrient-rich but low in calories and cholesterol.

It's best to plan small several meals a day than three large ones. Your meals must be evenly spaced out and taken at regular times to make your body get used to its schedule.

If you are suffering from other problems like obesity, specific vitamin deficiencies, or hypertension, make sure you take all of it in consideration when planning your menu.

Learn how to count calories and carbohydrates properly. This is not a form of obsession, but rather a safe and practical method to ensure your diet's effectiveness. Knowing how to count them will allow you to take advantage of an "exchange system" - that is, replacing certain food items in your diet with other food choices to retain your interest in your diet.

Last but not the least, plan something simple and one you can easily stick to. And when you've made one, promise yourself that you'll stick to it. It's for your own good anyway!

Sample Diabetic Menus - Sample #1

Breakfast. You can start with one-half cup of blueberries, one cup of fat-free or at least low-fat milk and one small bran muffin. The muffin can be replaced with a different pastry, just as long as it has the same calorie count.

Lunch. Consider a healthy serving of spinach salads spiced up by two tablespoonful of your preferred salad dressing. Eat this together with two ounces of low-sodium or unsalted turkey breast dressed up with two teaspoonfuls of mustard, several slices of tomato and a small serving of lettuce leaves. Consume this with one orange and another cup of fat-free milk.

Snack. For snacks, just eat one small banana or a different fruit of equivalent nutrients. Another type of snack could be made up of twenty almonds, a cup of coffee or your preferred choice of herbal tea together with six ounces of low-fat yogurt made tastier with a touch of sucralose.

Dinner. To end the day beautifully, have a meal featuring one-fourth pound of grilled shrimp or one sautéed with just a dab of olive oil, one cup of steamed broccoli, one half cup of black beans, and ¾ cup of your favorite whole-wheat pasta.

Sample #2

Breakfast. Start the day right with two slices of whole-wheat toast given flavor by two tablespoonful of peanut butter together with one cup of coffee or tea and one small banana.

Dinner. Go for two-thirds cup of brown rice (cooked), one cup of your preferred vegetables, and three ounces of chicken breast sautéed in olive oil.

Reptile Feeding Products - Mealworms and Super Worms

Reptile Feeding Products - Mealworms and Super Worms

When we talk about pets, the ones that most often spring to mind are dogs, cats, maybe even fish. Although reptiles are slightly more uncommon as pets, there are those amongst us that do like their lizards and salamanders. The more commonly tamed ones are tortoises or turtles, frogs and sometimes even spiders. If you have a pet, you have to feed it and the diet for this range of pets is usually constituted of feeder insects like mealworms or Bearded Dragon. They also consume fruit flies and crickets.

Let's look at the cricket in a little detail. If you've seen a grasshopper before, a cricket looks quite similar to it. Predominantly nocturnal creatures, you are most likely to come across them during night time. Live crickets are very commonly used as a feed for most reptile pets. Live crickets also make up the main feed for animals like the hedgehog or a pet hamster. They are also very popular as bait for fishing and can be tied to the end of hook to attract fish in ponds and streams.

If you have had a chance to hear crickets, they are rather noisy and this noise is their mating call. They create this sound by flapping their forewings. Crickets feed on a range of food from fungi to organic matter. They also eat decaying plants and sprouting plants. However, if they are deprived of food for any reason, they also do eat their own dead. It is also not uncommon in certain Asian cultures or parts of Africa for humans to consume crickets as well. It is a relatively unknown but interesting fact that crickets do possess an auditory sensory organ (what we know as the ear) and this is located in their knee.

Fruit flies are another common food for reptiles. Their mating call is also through sound created by vibrating their extended wings. This call is sent by the male of the species. Depending on the temperature of the surroundings, it can take anything from six to sixty days for the fruit fly to eventually develop in to an adult.
Mealworms are the next feeder insect we look at in details. They are the larva form of the mealworm beetle. They typically measure around 2.5 cms. Once the larvae hatch out from their eggs, they go through a stage of eating everything (usually various vegetation) very quickly and grow into a pupa. They then undergo repeated moulting. The pupa is initially a creamy white colour and then changes to an attractive brown. The body is segmented and generally mealworms can be quite attractive to look at. Mealworms play an important role in our eco system for recycling organic matter.

Zoophobias Mario is a species of the darkling beetle and the larvae of this beetle are called super worms. They can be between 1 to 2.5 inches long and resemble mealworms in appearance but are bigger than mealworms in size. Lizards, salamanders, turtles and even birds are fed Hissing Cockroaches as part of their diet.

The Benefits of a Fruitarian Diet

The Benefits of a Fruitarian Diet

For the majority of people, they had never before heard the term "fruitarian" until they watched the movie "Notting Hill" and heard a woman describe herself as one. Even though it was a comical scene and some fun was poked at the term, some people were surprised to learn that there is a group of people who find that a fruitarian diet is appealing as a lifestyle.

The main premise, when following this form of a raw vegan diet, has to do with a person limiting him or herself to only eating fruits, some varieties of seeds, and a limited selection of vegetables. Of course, much of the food selection that a fruitarian chooses for this living raw lifestyle depends on how strictly they choose to follow this diet.

There are many supporters of the lifestyle that some call "living raw" and claim that following a fruitarian diet is healthful, as it has many benefits, but those in the mainstream medical community disagree strongly. It is a fact that most traditional physicians caution against eating a strict fruit diet because it will result in a lack of nutrition and lead to health problems.

Because of this, the medical profession cautions that following this type of diet for a prolonged period of time is not advisable and will not sustain healthy and vital living. As a result of these warnings and concerns, most fruitarians incorporate additional sources of nourishment and other food components into their diets, even though they still rely on raw fruits as the main part of their daily food supply.

The idea of a fruit diet goes back a long way in human history to a time when humans were in their primitive state, and only had a diet that consisted of living foods, such as fruits and vegetables. Fruitarians are also quick to point out that many health and digestive problems are created by the cooking of foods, as is commonly practiced in today's modern world. They claim that many common diseases and illnesses can be prevented or reversed by focusing on raw food in a daily eating plan.

Even though eating raw food is central to the fruit diet, the fact is that there are a number of fresh fruits and vegetables that are simply indigestible unless they are cooked. Those who warn against a strict fruitarian lifestyle use this point to suggest that cooking processes have actually expanded the nutritional choices available to the human race, rather than destroying nutrients as extreme fruitarians claim.

In actuality, the truth is somewhere in between. While there is no doubt that fruit adds many beneficial nutritional elements into the diet, reason would dictate that following this path very strictly would eliminate some nutrients that the human body needs to flourish. At the same time, there is abundant and clear evidence that cooking fresh and living foods will indeed destroy vitamins, minerals, enzymes and other nutrients.

The majority of those who follow and advocate the fruitarian diet do recognize that relying on such a narrow range of foods is not the healthiest approach. As a result, most fruitarians strive to include a wider range of healthy foods into their overall diets for good balance and full nutrition. The bottom line is that the average person could benefit from eating raw food in more abundance, even though going to the extreme of a fruitarian lifestyle is not necessary.
